It’s vacation season! How excited are we all to kick up our feet and take it easy for a few days? After the last few years we’ve all had, it’s safe to say we’re all pretty stressed out and in need of a break.
And while it’s extremely important to get rest, lay in the sun, have great food, and get massages (woo hoo!) – it’s equally as important to continue taking care of your bodies as well.
While working out is probably the last thing on our minds as we pull up to a nice, sandy beach or beautiful mountain range, it’s always possible to get a few movements in between rest activities. Working out comes in many forms, and may even be hidden sometimes within your daily itineraries, so we’re going to give you a few ideas of how to work out on vacation. Let’s dive in!
A hotel gym is a perfect place to keep up with your training routine. We suggest planning out the days you want to work out and doing it early in the morning to get it done. Make sure to pack a few pairs of workout clothes with you, and maybe even bring a yoga mat if that is your type of training. Most hotel gyms have a few pieces of equipment but may not have everything that you’re used to. You may have to make some adjustments to your routine but don’t let that deter you from getting your workout in.
Get creative, try something new, and maybe add a bit more cardio into your session instead of weight training. Workouts don’t have to be long. You can crush a 30-minute workout while on vacation and have the rest of the day for fun and leisure!
Training doesn’t mean you need to be in a gym. You can train anywhere! There are tons of exercises and workouts you can do with only your body weight. Sometimes they are even tougher than weighted workouts. Take your training outside. You can be in the sand or in a mountain. 30- 45 minutes of running, jumping, push-ups, pull-ups, jumping jacks, etc. can all be put together to make a killer workout. The guys at Training Loft have created some amazing Body Weight workout programs that can be done anywhere at any time. Check them out here.
Just be active. Working out doesn’t necessarily mean you need weights or that you have to do a specific set of exercises. Our bodies are meant to move. While you’re on vacation, there will always be things to do. You can find excursions and adventures no matter what region you’re in. These are usually the most fun things to do on a vacation.
If you’re headed to the water, snorkeling and scuba diving are great workouts. Walking in the sand is also great for cardiovascular health. If you’re headed to a jungle or forest region, you can go hiking or zip-lining. Make it a fun experience and you won’t even know it’s a workout.
You can even find things to do at night. Going to a club or bar that has a dance floor is a great way to burn a ton of calories. Go ahead and get sweaty, live a bit, and enjoy yourself. You’ll notice that if you stay active on vacation – you won’t have lost everything you were working towards on your fitness journey when you return home.
