You can get fit by yourself. It’s hard, but possible.
You’ll be developing your own training program or following someone else’s, likely not suited to your body. You might be training alone or in a full class; either way, with limited accountability to keep you showing up and on track to see results.
And without that personal attention, it’s also far more likely for your technique to get sloppy, for old injuries to flare up and new injuries to occur, and then for progress to slip or stall. All of which takes a toll on your mental health as well.
Or you could hire a personal trainer and deal with none of that, because they are the expert so you don’t have to be.
So is hiring a personal trainer worth it? The answer already seems obvious, but let’s dig in.
When it comes to fitness, everybody and everybody needs something different. Big box gyms, large classes, and free fitness apps can only take you so far; at some point, they’re just not a fit (if they were even a fit in the first place). And if you really want to get fit, your workouts need to be a fit. For you.
With a personal trainer, your fitness plan is tailored to you, your body, and your goals totally focused on the transformation you want to achieve and the person you want to see in the mirror. That’s a lot of “you’s,” and that’s the whole point. Hiring a personal trainer is hiring an expert in you who will develop a plan to take you to your happier, healthier, and stronger self in the most efficient way possible.
At Training Loft, our team of talented, certified trainers does all that in lightning-fast sessions of 30 minutes. We’ll be honest—that’s hard to beat.
Accountability is crucial to achieving real results through fitness, and no one will hold you more accountable than your personal trainer. And let’s not confuse accountability with “peer pressure,” like the kind you may feel to not miss a group exercise class or even to give more effort in that class (side-eye at Chad who’s somehow always running at 110%). Peer pressure may be somewhat motivating, but it’s ultimately a pretty negative feeling that will only drag you down over time.
A personal trainer on the other hand does hold you accountable to show up and work hard, but also to keep your form correct, your spirits high, and your diet on track. Real accountability means making sure that your time is worth your effort and that with each workout you are making meaningful strides towards your ideal self.
Missing any of those pieces of training can totally derail a fitness plan and lead to missed milestones and crushed self-confidence. But that’s why you pay your personal trainer to be there for you, holding you accountable every step of the way.
Everybody has its quirks, limitations, and/ or deficiencies; but not every workout accommodates them (in fact, few do).
As we mentioned before, a personal trainer builds a custom plan for you and your body, and part of that means adjusting to what your body struggles with. Your trainer’s outside, expert perspective can go beyond that though, often identifying limitations you didn’t know you had in the first place, and potentially even solving longstanding mysteries about why you haven’t previously been able to reach certain fitness milestones.
These limitations or deficiencies that could easily go unnoticed in a larger class or completely missed when working out on your own can also be dangerous if left unaddressed—and a personal trainer will not only catch those hitches but know how to work around them if needed or overcome them if possible.
Frankly, for us, for this reason alone a certified and experienced personal trainer is more than worth the investment.
No, not for a long run. The long run. Like the long term? There we go.
Anyway—we say personal training is an investment, not an expense, because you see dividends down the road; and they keep on coming. But to be able to continue reaching your fitness goals and setting new ones, you need to stay healthy in body and mind. Injury and mental fatigue are among the top reasons why people fail to stay in their fitness routines, and it’s all too easy to succumb to either when working out alone or in a large group. That’s where a personal trainer shines, coaching you through proper technique to stave off injury and keeping your mindset positive and engaged through constant challenge and encouragement.
Your personal trainer will set you up with the correct technique right off the bat and fix it any time it slips later. Great technique is a critical piece of seeing and maintaining better results, by keeping your movement efficient and your body injury-free (nobody develops an exercise just to injure you after all).
However, it’s all too easy for techniques to fall apart when you start to get tired—and if you’re training on your own, it can feel impossible to know if you’re doing an exercise correctly at all. But with a pair of expert eyes making sure your form is flawless, you won’t have to worry about that for a second.
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and your personal trainer will make sure your mindset is as robust as your body. Through encouragement, coaching, and constructive critique, a personal trainer will build up your mental toughness, your grit, and also your ability to focus and relax.
Training doesn’t have to mean—shouldn’t mean—all stress and grind after all. You should feel supported, inspired, and absolutely badass in each moment and at the end of the day.
The answer to that question lies with you, but in our book an investment in a personal trainer yields the best results in fitness. Our experienced and certified trainers will craft a custom training program for your body and your goals, hold you accountable, and maintain your technique and support your mindset to keep you training for the long term.
